Just For Fun Cat Sculpture

Just For Fun Cat Sculpture

Hi Friends,

Instead of working on something tedious and important to have just right, I wanted to play in the clay. Oftentimes when I do this is when I’m helping on a project for a family member who’s making something. So I end up not playing just for myself. Since I liked the red clay so much, I decided to get it out and make something. At first I was going to make some birds but decided to make cats since I love them so much.

Attached are a few pictures of them. The first one took an hour and is the small one of the cat sitting up. I worked off of a photo in a cat book for that one. Then yesterday I made the cat lying down looking playful like he’s going to bat something with his paw. That one took two hours. Later that night Lionel came in and I decided to see how quick I could do one with a live model. Well, he struck a pose for me and kept it long enough for me to get the basics. Then as you can see in the photo of him lying the opposite direction, he decided to move. Well, he was a pretty good model overall. That one only took one hour so I can see having a model is the best.

None of them are big on design or really just right anatomy wise but these are fun to do. I think I’ll just let them be the same color as they are now. I have a glaze that is the same color so I may put a little bit of that on to give a sheen and to keep the deep red color. When they fire they turn more orange so the glaze will bring the deep red color back.

Thanks for looking and reading.
