Where My Soul Can Rest Sculpture

Where My Soul Can Rest Sculpture

Hi friends,

After doing the Hope rose I thought I should work on this sketch of  a young lady.  She’s a work in progress of a young lady sitting on an embankment with her feet dangling in the water.  I could do a serious sculpture of her one day. The drawing below I did back in 2008 and it was just waiting to be made into clay. :-)

After a couple of short sessions I have her to the point she’s at now. I’m really enjoying doing these just for fun type of sculptures. This one speaks to my heart as it’s called “Where my soul can rest.” She’s really at peace and enjoying nature with it’s quietness.

I didn’t use a model for this although I was going to have my niece come over and pose for me but it didn’t work out. So, she’s not accurate but close enough for a maquette.

After a bit more anatomy, I’ll start the fun part of adding the hair and clothes. A couple of water plant grasses will be in the water to help show that it’s water. One more session and she should be done. I’ll be getting back to my Indian woman and finishing her up too. I just felt like doing a simple easy sculpture.

Thanks for watching her progress.

Beautiful mood-capture, Ms. Bonêt! I can’t wait to see the finished product. Maybe I’ll buy one for my wife. ZD

easy and simple… well well, tamara,, this is a wonderful idea for a sculpture, and you handle it marvelous, but easy, simple ? i cannot see that… i noticed this with another pencil sketch you shared, and that is, how much further you bring the sculpt, even in this early stage. the pose, the mood, its absolutely clear and well defined,,, now, all you need, is “carry it home”, its beautiful already … i am happy to see you sculpting about peace, this is one of my favourite topics too.

Why thank you ZooDoc. I’m sure your wife would love it- hee, hee.

Dear Doris- Well, “easy and simple” in that it’s only taken me a few sessions and I’m not worrying if it’s perfect so I love doing that kind of sculpture! The sitting down sculptures are easy to do in earth clay whereas standing up requires skill to not have it fall over (external armatures etc. or leaning against something).

Thank you for commenting and that your liking it already. When I do those sketches on paper, they don’t have much detail but it’s enough to know what I can do in clay. Mostly I do those drawings in the evening when I’m relaxing and watching t.v. and just doodling ideas on paper.

Even though I have anxiety from time to time, my nature is to love peaceful things and nature and everything that makes our soul healthy. So sculpting these things comes right from within. We share so much in common and that is why I’m so connected with you and your art too. We are kindred spirits. :-)

    Another good one, Tamara. :)
I also wouldn’t say it’s simple or easy, but it has very clear and harmonic forms. That’s why it expresses peacefulness and tranquility so well.

Seems like another ‘therapeutic’ approach which will lead to a great sculpture. I also think it’s a good idea to give a more complex work like the Indian Lady a rest now and then so you can return to it and look at it with fresh eyes again.

Good luck for the rest, I’m sure it will turn out great.

    Hi Kurt,

Thanks for your comments. I’m at a point with the Indian woman where I need to decide if I’m going to have a curve in her back. A very good sculptor thought maybe there should be one. Well, I already have her dress on, so making that alteration would require work. I’ve looked at her myself and thought she needed that but when I get in the pose she’s in, it seems difficult to have the curve in her back. Well, anyway, that’s why I’m not back on the piece. I need to examine that carefully and that will require work and concentration.

I need relaxing things to do right now and so this sculpture I’m working on is very healing to me, ‘therapeutic’, yes it is. :-)
