Indian Woman (maiden) Sculpture “Wealth” WIPIndian Woman (maiden) Sculpture “Wealth” WIP Here’s an Indian woman (maiden) sculpture in a nativity scene that I’m currently working on. I suppose she really isn’t a maiden because she’s given birth but she is young. The sculpture has a way to go to be finished but I thought I’d share a few pictures of her along the way. Please let me know what you think. Comments and questions are encouraged. :-) The first pic shows an Indian woman quick pencil sketch that I drew back in May ’08. I like to sketch in the evenings and come up with new ideas that can be translated into clay. The theme of this sculpture is close to my heart because of what she symbolizes, that of being rich with a family. Her name is “Wealth.” To me one of the greatest things that makes a person rich is to have a child. ![]() Indian woman holding a baby pencil sketch. ![]() Getting fabric and braids worked out. Hi Tamara, I absolutely LOVE your new sculpture! The Indian woman’s face is serene, yet quietly jubilant over the fact that she has given birth. She’s spiritually “wealthy” and fulfilled. And I absolutely ADORE the baby’s face. There’s nothing more beautiful, to me, than a new baby sleeping peacefully. Great job!!! ZD
Tamara, as you know, your work to me is beautiful. Her face is so strong Indian and I just love her looks. She is beautiful and when you get to the baby, the first picture I could see she is a pretty baby but when I got to the closeup of the baby I could see that it is really lifelike. The Indian maiden and the baby are just totally naturally looking persons. Love- Mom
Tamara, I never stop being in ah! at your work and abilities. She is beutiful, She stirs my soul and just makes you stop to catch your breath. She is a maiden in my mind, why? Because Indain’s as with other offten had ones to help them and even shared nurings as need. She is the maiden thinking of how she wants and one day will be so very rich with the gife of life.
Or as you expressed the baby can be hers but then she is not a maiden.
I love the feeling in her face and the roundness of the babys face that make him or her so cute and loving as you look at this new life.
Love me
Thank you ZD, Mom and Aunt Christine.
I’m so glad you all “love” her. That makes me feel great. All of your opinions mean so much to me. I’ve always loved the feeling and look of the Indian culture and so it’s very enjoyable to sculpt her.
Love,
Tamara
Tamara !
WOW ! I just stumbled onto your blog. I’m a 56 year old man who has been a woodcarver most of my life. Since the age 4 i have been interested in american indians. This sculpt is SO beautiful. Makes my heart full of love for her. Outstanding work. It really grabs me. So glad i found enough pics to see all around her. I’ve bookmarked this blog , you have a new fan of your art work.I TRULY hope you continue creating Beautiful indian women like this. I love this sculpt above ALL others i have ever seen, and I’ve seen alot. I dont know if you have a regular website or if you have created more sculpts like this indian woman and baby. I hope so, i’d sure like to see more. Thank you and best wishes to you and yours. Sincerely, rick woodward
Hi Rick,
I so appreciate your comments.
When I was a little girl I remember wanting the little Indian purses that you could buy that had beads on them. I just loved Indians and wanted to be one. I’d wear my hair parted in the middle and with braids. To this day, if I do that, sometimes people will say I look like an Indian. I love that because I love Indians too.
This is my first Indian sculpture but maybe I’ll do more. Soon I’ll be posting an update on this Indian woman. I wanted her slimmer from the back view so I lengthened her a bit. I’ll post pics from all the views so that you can see all around her.
This blog is a part of my regular website. If you click on my logo at the top of the page you’ll go to the homepage. Also, if you click on the fan in the side bar you’ll go to the ceramic page or bronze page etc.
Maybe you can share some of your woodcarving work in the sculpture section of http://www.wetcanvas.com I’m a moderator there and would enjoy seeing your work.
Thanks for posting,
~Tamara
