Removing Leylandy Cyprus perimeter trees

Hi all,

Here’s another post that isn’t about sculpture but just about daily events on our property. I guess this effects my sculpture because the view out my studio window has changed. :-)

Bird in animal trap

Hi Everyone,

This post isn’t about sculpture but just something I’ll put in my daily event category on my blog. (I did sculpt on my “Resting” sculpture for awhile this afternoon. I put water with ripples surrounding her toes). Today we found that for the first time our animal trap (that we keep by our koi pond primarily for raccoons) had a bird in it.

Luisa at the Park

Hi friends,

This past month we enjoyed a celebration in the park.  Ron and I shared a booth where he showed his book and I showed sculpture.  It was a beautiful day in the park.  What was a real treat was having some from our congregation there to support us and sit with us near our booth.  Also, Luisa, 90 years of age, the subject of one of my sculptures, came out for the day.  She felt like a star because we were pointing her out as people were looking at the sculpture of her.  :-)

Here’s a few pictures of Luisa that day in the park.

“Voice From the Grave” Poem by Ron About His Daughter

Hi everyone,

Here’s a poem (shown below) that Ron just composed about his daughter Iris who died in 1998. She and I were only 2 weeks apart in age. A lady asked Ron if he wanted to post something on her blog about Iris. She had read on his website that his daughter was the inspiration for his book “War Star Rising: The Legend of Toucan Moon.” Here’s a link to his book:  http://www.zoodoc-stories.com/Novels.html

Last night I read the poem out loud while Ron listened. It was all very emotional for him to revisit this sad part of his life. When I got to the part about the doll that he sent to Iris, but she never knew it was from him, he cried. How very sad that Iris’ mother and grandmother conspired to keep him from seeing her. To add to the sadness, Iris’ mother was later shot to death by her ex-boyfriend about a year after the funeral for Iris. So Ron’s past with Iris and her mother is completely gone.

Lost my kitty Leia

Here is Leia a few months ago lying in a flower pot on our front porch. She was always finding her special little spots to lay down.

For the past week or so our kitty Leia had been sleeping a lot and not playing with Lionel our other cat.  We thought she was just going through her teenage years, so to speak.  Or we thought maybe she was hibernating, (we didn’t know if cats do this), since it’s wintertime.  So we thought she was having the luxurious life of getting to sleep all day on our couch etc.  We had no idea that she was sick and I have learned a big lesson.  I wish I could have protected Leia from her illness and got her well but I do accept that I’m imperfect and just didn’t know.

My sweetest and dearest kitty Leia had come down with pneumonia.  On Sunday we awoke  to find her gasping for air, breathing very rapidly and with a raspy and gurgly voice.  All vet offices were closed on Sunday so we took her to the emergency animal clinic in a nearby town.  They assessed her situation and said that it was an emergency and that she could “go south” very quickly.  We had them put her in the oxygen room to help her to catch her breath.  Even with the oxygen she was still breathing with difficulty.
