Indian Maiden (Woman) Sculpture Update

Hi Everyone,

Last week Ron, my hubby, made a rock  base for the Indian woman.  So I decided to take some pics of her on the base since she’s almost finished.  What do you think of the base?  I think that it gives her an earthy feel.  He made the sculpture base out of papercrete which is just concrete with sand and a bunch of shredded paper.  The paper makes the base lighter.

Indian Woman Sculpture WIP

The Indian feathers have temporarily been removed, well, actually, they fell off. :-)   I only had placed them on the head just to see if I wanted feathers on her.  I think that I will do them but turn them upside down and add some beads as well in her hair.

The Indian woman’s back view was too husky so I feminized her quite a bit.  Here are some pics showing her prior to adding texture.  Ideally it would be good to create the texture simply from making the forms of the back.  In order to have the soft shades of grey in the shadows of the back, I found that I needed to utilize the brush dipped in water.   This brush is carefully dragged over the surface until I get the forms just right.

Indian woman sculpture is coming along nicely. For the past several days I’ve been mourning the loss of my kitty and haven’t felt much like sculpting but yesterday I felt better. I worked on her braids and tried out some feathers in the back of her hair. The feathers need to be fairly thick in order for the casting material to flow through the mold well. More work will be done on braids and feathers.

Indian Woman (maiden) Sculpture “Wealth” WIP

Here’s an Indian woman (maiden) sculpture in a nativity scene  that I’m currently working on.  I suppose she really isn’t a maiden because she’s given birth but she is young. :-D

The sculpture has a way to go to be finished but I thought I’d share a few pictures of her along the way.  Please let me know what you think.  Comments and questions are encouraged. :-)

The first pic shows an Indian woman quick pencil sketch that I drew back in May ’08.  I like to sketch in the evenings and come up with new ideas that can be translated into clay.  The theme of this sculpture is close to my heart because of what she symbolizes, that of being rich with a family. Her name is “Wealth.”  To me one of the greatest things that makes a person rich is to have a child.
